Wash High Students Recognized for Essays

The Common Ground Teen Center, 92 N. Main St., Washington, held their 12th Annual Black History Month Showcase on Thursday, March 3rd.   Four Washington High School seniors were recognized for their essay submissions to the Teen Outreach Black History Month Essay Contest. J'Juan (JJ) Shabazz and Kyle Slesh garnered second and third place honors. They  received $75 and $50 respectively. Both students read their prize-winning submissions and were recognized. JJ attended virtually, whereas Kyle was there in person. Two other seniors, Riley Tylus and Kiera Woods, both received $25 awards for their essays. 

The annual contest is held every February and sponsored by Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski and the Washington Health System Teen Outreach. Students in grades 7-12 in schools throughout Washington County participate. Congratulations to all!
