Principal’s Message

Welcome to Washington Park Intermediate School (Grades 4-6), home of the Little Prexies, where excellence is our goal.  We strive to create an environment where students can be successful both academically and behaviorally.  Washington Park is a place where students can feel safe and know that everyone here is willing to help.  We maintain high district standards and strive to meet standards set forth by the state.

We have aligned our curriculum to the Pennsylvania standards.  The curriculum is continually examined and adapted to meet the needs of our ever-changing student population.  Math and reading continue to be the focal points as we continue to prepare for the PSSAs.  Science, social studies, art, music, computers, gym and numerous other offerings keep students well-rounded and encourage life-long learning.

Our school utilizes a plethora of resources and programs to ensure students are given every opportunity to be successful.  Academically, we employ the Response to Intervention model to identify every student’s specific needs.  A variety of testing, including 4Sight and DIBELS, is employed to help recognize the students’ explicit deficiencies.  We also use Study Island, Accelerated Reader and many other academic support programs to address individual needs.  Behaviorally, we use the School Wide Positive Behavior Support Model to guarantee incentives for positive behavior.  Our Prexie Pride, Very Important Prexie, Honor Level and Student of the Month programs all recognize the positive conduct of our students.  We track students’ behavior and regularly address detrimental behavior with functional behavior assessments and behavior plans to meet the student’s individual needs.

On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration I would like to extend our gratitude for all you do.  The parents, community members, community agencies and businesses are the backbone of the success that Washington School District has endured for years.  I am proud to be part of the Prexie family and will do my best to improve and continue the accomplishments that preceded me.  If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.  Communication and mutual respect are the cornerstones of education, and together we make a difference.
