Washington School District, Together we make a difference.
Welcome to Washington Area School District

Washington High School

Principal’s Message

It is with much pride and enthusiasm that I welcome everyone to our school community.  Washington High School is an exceptional school.  We see our mission to assist students to progressively accept more responsibility for self-discipline, to develop self-respect, to contribute to the community, to develop a love of learning, and to strive for academic proficiency and excellence.

We are a comprehensive, public educational school, offering an environment that reflects our society and better prepares students for their future lives.  Our commitment is evident in many honors and distinctions that our school has earned throughout the many years we have served the students of our community.  Continuing this tradition and exceeding the expectations of our students, parents, faculty, and staff remain our school’s primary focus.

Meeting the academic needs of a diverse student populace still remains our greatest challenge.  Our student body, numbering approximately 600, represents a cross section of our greater community; each student brings varying degrees of academic and athletic ability, and varied interests in extra-curricular activities to our learning community.  Nevertheless, our school strives to meet these challenges daily with the assistance of 50 faculty members, two guidance counselors, and support staff.  Their dedication and professionalism are highly valued and seen as our most important resource.

Educating a productive citizenry from a diverse student population with varying degrees of academic proficiency is not any easy task.  Washington High School is committed to furthering the success of every student by meeting their diverse academic needs.  Our Specialized Instructions Program is dedicated to increasing the inclusionary rate of our exceptional education students into regular education courses with the aim of increasing the preparedness in meeting societal demands.  Our Advanced Placement (A.P.) Programs are focused on attaining higher passing rates on A.P. exams through a dedicated faculty committed to furthering this aim.  Our curriculum is structured to prepare our students to connecting education to career pathways so that our students can enter post secondary institutions, the technical vocational arena, the various branches of our military, and/or the general work force.

Fulfilling our commitment to our students includes providing diverse extra-curricular program opportunities.  Our student activities provide many outlets for our students to pursue their individual interests.

Our Athletic Department provides many opportunities for our students to consider participation either in Junior Varsity or Varsity level sports.  Our sports programs have garnered many State, District, and Sectional Titles over the years; we are noted throughout the state as one of the premier athletic high schools.  Our coaches remain committed to assisting their athletes on and off the field and have a dedication to both academic and athletic excellence.

We will no doubt continue the rich Washington High School tradition of providing our students a first class academic program, various extra-curricular opportunities, and diverse community service experiences.  I invite all of you to become active participants in assisting our teachers, counselors, administrators, and most importantly our students in achieving their highest potential.
